Why doubleheaders happen
Weather, travel, and stadium conflicts create postponed games that must be repaid. Doubleheaders are the accounting method. They can be split admissions or single-admission depending on the situation.
For contenders, a doubleheader is both an opportunity to gain two games and a risk of emptying a bullpen before the next series.
